Isle of Wight County, Virginia is one of the oldest county governments in America. Nestled on the shores of Virginia’s historic James River, Isle of Wight’s residents enjoy the rural nature of the County coupled with the quaintness of the incorporated small towns, Smithfield and Windsor.
Genuine Smithfield is a very walkable town. The Historic District includes Main and North Church Streets where most of our shops and restaurants are located, and South Church Street showcasing lovely historic homes. Anchoring the town is the Smithfield Station at the foot of South Church Street and Windsor Castle Park connecting it all.
Make our Visitor Center your first stop in town to pick up a downtown map noting all our shops, restaurants and attractions. Our docents will also be happy to give you our Historic Walking Tour brochure featuring 64 properties of historic significance – all within easy walking distance of Smithfield’s charming Main Street. The walking tour is also available online.
